Identity Palette – Dracula by Bram Stoker
Project Type: | Magazine spread, Identity Palette |
My Role: | Student |
Client: | Northern Alberta Institute of Technology |
Tools: | Adobe Illustrator |
Year: | 2020 |
I created this for my Visual Communications class, where I was tasked to choose three novels and create a magazine spread for each of them. These designs had to reflect the mood and themes of the novels. I chose Dracula by Bram Stoker for one of them.
As Dracula is a Gothic horror novel, I used a Gothic font for the drop cap. I added red scribble lines before “Story” and across the bottom of the page; this reflects how the novel is written in diary or letter entries.
The twin circles seen on the left page and before the “Scholarly Criticism” on the right page allude to the fang marks that Dracula leaves on the necks of his victims.
There is a faint blue stain-like pattern in the background to represent fog and murkiness, as in the novel, Dracula usually appears accompanied by fog or mist.
I chose the main colours to be black, white, and red to allude to darkness/night, fangs, and blood, respectively.
